To continue doing what they do best as experts in such a highly demanding industry with the utmost sense of excellence and professionalism, our client is on the look for the ideal talent to occupy the position of Chief Legal Officer to spearhead the company's legal affairs.


Responsibilities

You will execute the missions of,

  • Developing and implementing legal strategies and policies
  • Reviewing legal documents on oil and gas transactions across upstream and midstream activities
  • Litigating on behalf of the company
  • Overseeing legal affairs and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies and priorities
  • Managing a team of corporate counsel and other members of the legal department
  • Maintaining proper corporate interactions with the relevant local, governmental bodies, legislatures and the community
  • Establishing and overseeing compliance program, including Compliance Manual, Code of Ethics, to ensure policies and procedures are in place to ensure the company complies with applicable corporate and oil and gas laws and meets its fiduciary responsibilities to all stakeholders
  • Developing and overseeing the execution of policies and procedures to address potential conflicts of interest related to oil and gas operations
  • Creating, interpreting and understanding all contracts signed by the company; preparing legal forms such as nondisclosure agreements or proprietary information agreements
  • Educating staff on legal issues; setting up training materials regarding legal matters for employees
  • Ensuring that all licenses, commercial and employment agreements and permits of the company are valid

Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB).
  • Master's Degree in oil and gas law or related field
  • A licensed Attorney
  • Member of a Government Bar
Professional Experience
  • Seven (7) to eight (8) years of broad legal experience as in-house counsel at an Oil & Gas company and/or a practicing attorney at a large or mid-sized law firm. 
  • Serving or having served at a government bar

Skills & Aptitude
  • Excellent knowledge of the oil and gas industry regulations; regulatory matters, corporate law, business transactions
  • Member in good standing of at least one Government Bar
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, with the ability to tailor communication style to diverse audiences and present complex information clearly
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to prioritize a large volume of assignments and manage multiple deadlines
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external clients with diverse identities, perspectives and cultures
  • Able to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Sound and practical business judgement
  • Experience with bankruptcy law and workouts
  • IT proficiency
